About BrittiCares International
Jamie and Shirell Henderson founded BrittiCares International after their 10-year-old daughter, Brittiana Rene Henderson, was diagnosed with bone cancer and later leukemia. Brittiana courageously fought the disease, never losing hope or faith, and always exuding love for others. Visiting children in the same hospital, reading to them, and spending time with them, Brittiana would always take the focus away from herself by focusing on others. Brittiana's battle came to an end January 31, 2007, but not before becoming a forerunner in helping other children with similar challenges get through their battle through hope, love, and lots of smiles.
Always positive and loving, showing a beautiful smile, Brittiana left a clear message, "'Smile For Life', because life is precious and worth smiling for." "Smile For Life" was Brittiana's mission for enhancing the quality of life in children suffering from cancer and serious blood disease. In a poem written by Brittiana entitled, "Where I'm From," she expresses the livelihood of herself, and other children suffering from cancer, while never letting her faith stray. "Where I'm from, doubt was not in my vocabulary, for all I had was faith and belief. Where I'm from, you never give up, because life brings challenges and challenges bring strength." In order to keep hope and faith alive for other childhood cancer patients, Jamie, Shirell, and Brittiana organized the 1st annual 5K run/walk in 2006.
